Its been over a year since I began on this journey to launch a digital business. I must confess my digital and social media knowledge was a bit limited but my passion to see this vision come to fruition was great, so I started. Black entrepreneurship has always been rooted in me, as I watched my father “bring home the bacon” as a building contractor. At that time in my life I didn’t know that being an entrepreneur was about a lot more than my dad paying bills and being “provider” in the home. Honestly I didn’t even know what an entrepreneur was… I just got a little excited when he showed me a little cash. Thats when I knew i wanted to make money and be like my dad.
Since those pre-teen years, I have learned that being an entrepreneur is a way to earn an income for living, but also a foundational way to build and support families and communities. Entrepreneurship takes, vision, grit, and most of all faith. My dad exhibited all those.. he just didn’t call it entrepreneurship. It was being a black man with a business supporting his family in America.
Fast forward 30 years and here I am with a magazine, an entertainment and promotions company, a graphic and print business, and now a digital media company. I love entrepreneurship. I could write a book about all the ups and downs with all those businesses ( and I probably will) but despite the difficulties I am in the game making strides and progress with all my entrepreneur cohorts!
This is going to be the ride of a lifetime.
A new media company providing news, information, and resources for Black entrepreneurs, the African American community, and those who support us.
This will be a chapter in African American history.
